I have a particular style in mind, a grey, two-tone wool jacket with asymmetrical buttons and a contrasting eyelet.

For a shopper in search of plainness and elegance, for a straight up-and-down shift, say, or a perfectly cut wool jacket, everything feels just that bit too much.

But usually they redeem themselves with impeccably fitted grey wool jackets, as they did yesterday.

Such as the superbly cut, charcoal wool jackets or hounds-tooth cashmere knits with trimmed pockets that kicked off the show.

And yet, save for the few blanket wool jackets in rustic shades of olive, khaki and mustard, it felt as if we were in for another disappointment.
