Previously implacable enemies in the US political leadership have reached a bipartisan agreement on $150 billion of emergency tax cuts.

With opposition growing and midterm elections looming in November, time to get bipartisan agreement on the reforms is running out.

But both say they are hopeful they could reach bipartisan agreement after taking office.
