Black rice echoes the look of the berries while contributing a nutty back taste, not forgetting roast tomato halves to add a caramel sweetness.

They go with most things, from chutney and pickles to roast tomato halves, mixed vegetables and salad.

My other standby, best made when indigenous tomatoes are glutting, is roast tomato soup with basil.
