(d shä-tə-lā, dy, dü), Marquise. Title of (Gabrielle) Émilie Le Tonnelier de Breteuil. 1706-1749. French mathematician and physicist. She wrote Institutions de physique (1740) and translated Newton's Principia Mathematica into French (published posthumously in 1759).
