A progestin, C₂₀H₂₆O₂, used (often in acetate form) alone or in combination with estrogen in oral contraceptives, in combination with estrogen in hormone replacement therapy, and for the treatment of endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and amenorrhea.
