Nax·çi·van

(näk′chĭ-vän, nä′-) or Na·khi·che·van (nə-kē′chə-, -ē′-) A semiautonomous exclave of Azerbaijan separated from the rest of the country by Armenia to the north and east and bordering on Iran and Turkey to the south and west. Ceded to Russia by Persia in the early 1800s, it was joined to the USSR as the Nakhichevan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924.
