(lĭpə-rē, lēpä-) Formerly Ae·o·li·an Islands (ē-ōlē-ən) A group of volcanic islands of Italy off the northeast coast of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The islands have been inhabited since the Neolithic Period.
