‖ daman|ˈdæmən| [From the Arabic name daman isrāīl, sheep or lamb of Israel.] The Syrian rock-badger or ‘cony’ of Scripture (Hyrax Syriacus); the name is also extended to the species found at the Cape (H. Capensis).
