stainierite Min.|ˈsteɪnɪəraɪt| [ad. Du. stainierit (V. Cuvelier 1929, in Natuurwetensch. Tijdschr. XI. 177), f. the name of Xavier Stainier (b. 1865), Belgian geologist: see -ite1.] A hydrous oxide of cobalt which is usu. found as black needles forming microcrystalline crusts on cobalt ores, and is now regarded as the same as heterogenite.
1930Mineral. Abstr. IV. 248 This is regarded as the crystalline equivalent of the colloidal heterogenite, and is named stainierite. 1941Ibid.
