The brilliantly coloured sea-fish Chrysoblephus cristiceps (family Sparidæ).
Derivation via Du. dorade, ad. Sp. and Pg. dorado dorado (Boshoff & Nienaber Afrikaanse Etim., 1967) does not account for the phonology of the S. Afr. word.
