[= med.L. crusellus; also MLG. krusel, crusele, LG. krüsel, krôsel, kreusel, EFris. krûsel, an oil-lamp used by country-people, etc., MDu. kruysel, krosel hanging-lamp; cf. also OF. croisel, croissol, and other Romanic forms, usually connected with crux and associated with crucibolum, while the Ger. forms are treated by Hildebrand and others as dim. of krûse, cruse.] A night-lamp of oil or tallow.
