spirogyra|spaɪrəʊˈdʒaɪərə| Also Spiro-. [mod.L. (H. F. Link in C. G. D. Nees von Esenbeck Horæ Physicæ Berolinensis (1820) i. 5), f. spiro- + Gr. γῡρός, γῡρά round.] A green filamentous fresh-water alga of the genus of this name.
