[ON. ragna rök, f. ragna gen. of regin the gods + rök destined end (a conventional usage in this phrase of rök the course of events from origin to end, their causes and consequences); properly as above, but the form Ragna rökr (rökr twilight, a more readily comprehensible substitute for the archaic rök) occurs in the prose Edda, and the mod. sense is freq. founded upon this (see Cleasby-Vigfusson ed. 2).]
In Scandinavian mythology, the destruction of the gods or the twilight of the gods; spec. the last battle of this world, in which gods and men will be defeated by monsters and the sun will grow dark. Also fig.
