spasmoneme Zool.|ˈspæzməʊniːm| [ad. G. spasmonem (G. Entz 1892, in Math. und naturwissensch. Berichte aus Ungarn X. 27), f. Gr. σπασµό-ς pulling, convulsion + νῆµ-α thread.] One of the three strands in the stalk of a vorticellid whose sudden contraction causes the stalk to coil tightly, withdrawing the animal from possible danger.
