‖ sparus|ˈspɛərəs| Pl. spari |ˈspɛəraɪ|. [L., ad. Gr. σπάρος. For Anglicized forms see spar n.8 and spare n.3] A sea-bream or gilt-head. Formerly also applied to many different fishes in some way resembling these.
