spartakiad, n.|spɑːˈtækɪæd| Also -iade and with cap. initial. [ad. Czech, Russ. spartakiáda: see Spartacist n.; cf. Olympiad n. Said to have been coined in Czech by J. F. Chaloupecký in 1921: see Malá Československá Encyklopedie (1987) V. 789/2.] In the Soviet Union and other Eastern European countries: a popular sporting event characterized by the participation of large numbers of people in a wide range of sports.
