1849R. V. Dixon Heat 147 The phenomenon called ‘soubresaut’, or jumping motion, sometimes observed in liquids when in a state of ebullition. 1863Grove Contrib. to Sci. 420 Boiling like sulphuric acid with soubresauts.
Add:2. Ballet. A jump made with straight legs and well-pointed toes, with the feet remaining in fifth position.
