ˈsodbuster Western N. Amer. [f. sod n.1 + buster.] A term, chiefly opprobrious, for a farmer, farmworker, or homesteader in a cattle-grazing region, esp. one who ploughs virgin grassland. Hence ˈsodbusting vbl. n., ploughing virgin grassland; farming.
