slow-hound|ˈsləʊhaʊnd| [prob. a variant of slough-hound, with first element assimilated to slow a.] A sleuth-hound. slow hound is given by Skinner (1671) as an explanation of ‘Slouth or Sleuthound’, but is is not clear whether he knew it to be really in use.
