Originally: food prepared in a conventional or traditional manner, as opposed to fast food (cf. fast food n.). Now chiefly: a movement, originating in Italy, which aims to preserve local culinary traditions and agricultural biodiversity; (also) food produced or prepared in accordance with the principles of this movement.
The movement is associated with the international non-profit organization Slow Food, founded in 1989.
