1541Act 33 Hen. VIII, c. 9 §1 New and craftie games and plaies, as..slide thrift, otherwise called shoue groat. 1630J. Taylor (Water P.) Wks. iii. 79 Some of the Townesmen were..bowling: some at slide-thrift, or shouel-board.
2. A spendthrift.
a1591H. Smith Wks. (1866) I. 327 So you depart from our sermons like a slide-thrift's purse, which will hold no money.
