columbium Chem.|kəˈlʌmbɪəm| [f. Columbia poet. name for America + -ium. So named in 1801 by Hatchett, who discovered it in a specimen of the ore (columbite) brought from Massachusetts.] A metallic element, occurring in columbite and other minerals. Symbol Cb. Now called niobium.
