† coˈllectory Sc. Obs. [f. collector + -y; perh. representing OF. collecterie ‘fonction de collecteur’ (Godefroy). Cf. rectory, directory, etc.] The office of collector, collectorship; also, sometimes, the profits or proceeds of such an office, ‘money collected’ (Jamieson).
