sisal|ˈsaɪs(ə)l; formerly also ˈsɪsəl, sɪˈsɑːl| Also sissal and with capital initial. [See def.] 1. The name of a port in Yucatan, used attrib. with sisal fibre, sisal grass, sisal hemp, to designate the prepared fibre of several species of Agave and Fourcroya, which is largely exported from that place for use in rope-making. Also sisal plant, the aloe or other plant from which the fibre is obtained.
