Silene Bot.|saɪˈliːnɪ| [mod.L. (Linnæus), f. L. Sīlēnus Silenus.] A genus of caryophyllaceous plants typifying the tribe Sileneæ. Also (with lower-case initial) a plant belonging to this genus; catchfly.
