Gronovius in Linnæus's Genera Plantarum (1737) 339), f. the name of John Clayton, Virginian botanist (1686–1773): see -ia1.] A plant of a genus of small herbs so called, belonging to the family Portulacaceæ, and native to North America, Siberia, and Australasia; = spring-beauty (see spring n.1 7 c).
