The name of Hans Heinrich Queckenstedt (1876–1918), German physician, used attrib. and in the possessive to denote the procedure proposed by him (Deutsch. Zeitschr. f. Nervenheilk. (1916) LV. 326) of compressing a patient's jugular veins while observing the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid (the absence of a marked increase in this indicating obstruction of the subarachnoid space).

(ed. 2) 1175/2 Queckenstedt's test, in healthy persons pressure on the veins of the neck causes a prompt rise in the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid, which disappears on release of the pressure on the veins.1934D. V. xi. 803 If..the Queckenstedt test is positive, that is, if flow of cerebrospinal fluid is partly or completely interfered with by a block in the subarachnoid space, the rise on jugular compression will be totally absent if the block is complete, or greatly slowed and diminished in height if the block is incomplete.1968Passmore & Robson Compan.
