Chippendale, a.|ˈtʃɪpəndeɪl| [f. name of a celebrated cabinet-maker and furniture designer of the 18th c.: see first quot.] Applied to a particular style of light and elegant drawingroom furniture; also to a style of book-plates. Hence Chippendalism.
