chionodoxa|ˌkaɪənəʊˈdɒksə| [mod.L. (E. P. Boissier Diagnoses Plantarum Orientalium Novarum (1844) I. v. 61), f. Gr. χιών snow + δόξα glory.] A plant of the genus so named, bearing blue flowers, valued by horticulturists for its early-blooming habit, and popularly known as ‘glory of the snow’.
