Shawnee, a. and n.|ʃɔːˈniː| Also † Savan(n)a, Shawanee, Shaweno, Shawnese, Shonee, etc. [ad. Munsee šawanow, f. Shawnee šawanoki people of the south. Early forms in -ese prob. represent a hybrid formation with -ese, later interpreted as the pl. of a stem in -ee.] A. adj. 1. Of or pertaining to an Algonquian Indian people, formerly resident in the eastern U.S. and now in Oklahoma; designating a member of this people or its language.
