‖ Chamærops Bot.|kəˈmɪərɒps| [L., a. Gr. χαµαίρωψ a plant mentioned by Pliny, f. χαµαί on the ground, dwarf-growing + ῥώψ shrub, bush; but the form is uncertain: the modern application was accepted by Linnæus from Pontedera.] A northern genus of palms, including the Dwarf Fan Palm, C. humilis, the smallest of the order, and the only one found north of the Mediterranean, and the Chinese C. Fortuni, which can be grown in the south of England.
