Shaftesburian, a.|ʃɑːftsˈbjʊərɪən, -æ-| Also Shaftsburean, -ian. [f. Shaftesbury (see below) + -ian.] Of or pertaining to the moral philosophy or literary style of Anthony Ashley Cooper, third Earl of Shaftesbury (1671–1713), author of ‘Characteristicks of Men’ (1711).
