1846C. Maitland Ch. in Catacombs iii. 67 The word cepotaph is derived from the Greek κηποτάϕιον, a tomb in a garden. As the cinerary urns occupied but little space..the ashes of the dead were generally deposited in the garden or courtyard of the house. |
