‖ Cephaˈlaspis Palæont. [mod.L., f. Gr. κεϕαλή + ἀσπίς shield, buckler.] A genus of fossil ganoid fishes found in the Old Red Sandstone, having a large buckler-shaped plate attached to the head: also called buckler-heads.
