celosia Bot.|sɪˈləʊsɪə, -ʃ(ɪ)ə| [mod.L., f. Gr. κήλεος burning, κηλός dry, so called from the burnt appearance of the flowers of some species.] A plant of the amaranthaceous genus so named, esp. the cockscomb, Celosia cristata.
