1728Chambers Cycl. s.v., The Stars in the Constellation Serpentarius in Ptolomy's Catalogue are 29. 1795T. Maurice Hindostan I. i. x. 339 Serpentarius..is one of the forty-eight old constellations, and a very near neighbour of the Scorpion. 1868Lockyer Guillemin's Heavens (ed. 3) 366 Since the observation of Tycho Brahé, many temporary stars have been seen in the constellations of Serpentarius and Cygnus.
