† caton Obs. Also cathon. [a. F. Caton, ad. L. Catōn-em, Cato.] The Disticha de moribus attributed to Dionysius Cato, a book of ethics in Latin verse, of the 3rd or 4th c., much esteemed in the middle ages as a manual of instruction.
