pyrrolidone Chem.|pɪˈrɒlɪdəʊn| [ad. G. pyrrolidon (J. Tafel 1889, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. XXII. 1861): see prec. and -one.] Either of two isomeric mono-keto derivatives of pyrrolidine; esp. NH·(CH2)3·CO (2-pyrrolidone), a colourless crystalline solid with weakly basic properties; any substituted derivative of either isomer.
