pyroxylic, a. Chem.|paɪərɒkˈsɪlɪk| Also erron. -ilic. [f. as prec. + -ic.] Obtained from wood by means of fire, i.e. by dry distillation; chiefly in pyroxylic spirit, an early name for methyl alcohol (CH4O), also called wood-spirit.
