ˈcarmele Sc. Also carameile. [a. Gael. cairmeal, corra-meille, Ir. cara meala, ‘heath-pea, wild licorice’.] The Heath Pea (Lathyrus macrorrhizus), a leguminous British plant with an edible tuberous root.
