Calluna Bot.|kæˈluːnə| [mod.L. (R. A. Salisbury 1802, in Trans. Linn. Soc. VI. 317), f. Gr. καλλύν-ειν to beautify, sweep clean, f. κάλλος beauty.] A monotypic genus of plants of the family Ericaceæ, the only known species being C. vulgaris, the common heather; also (with lower-case initial), a plant of this species. Also attrib.
