‖ calcaire|kalˈkɛːr| [Fr. (ad. L. calcārius); ‘calcareous’, n. in Geology ‘calcareous stone, limestone’.] In calcaire grossier and calcaire silicieux (lit. coarse and siliceous limestone) the French names of two Middle Eocene strata of the Paris basin, used by geologists generally.
