butadiene Chem.|ˌbjuːtəˈdaɪiːn| [f. butane + di-2 + -ene.] Either of the two isomeric hydrocarbons CH3·CH:CH·CH3 (also called methylallene) and CH2:CH·CH:CH2 (also called erythrene), the latter being used as a constituent of various artificial rubbers (cf. buna). Also attrib. and Comb., as butadiene-acrylonitrile, butadiene-styrene.
