1. trans. To screw up (one's face); to shrug (the back or shoulders) from cold.

intr. To fish with a scringe net. Also trans. Hence ˈscringing vbl. n. and ppl. a. Also ˈscringer.
1825Jamieson, Skreengin. 2. A mode of fishing with small nets during the night, without the aid of torches, on the coast of Argyleshire. This mode of fishing is simply scourging the water. 1898J.
