‖ scopula Ent.|ˈskɒpjʊlə| [late L. scōpula, dim. of scōpa a broom.] A small brush-like group of hairs upon the tarsus of bees and spiders.
1802Kirby Monogr. Apum Angliæ I. 110 Scopula. This is the name by which I denominate the hairs which cover the inside of the plantæ, called by Schrank scopa, and by Reamur ‘la brosse’. 1816Kirby & Sp. Entomol. xix.
