Abbassid, -ide, a. and n.|əˈbæsɪd, ˈæbəsɪd, -aɪd| Also Abbasid, -ide. [f. name of al- ῾Abbās (566–652) + patronymic suff. -id(e.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to the dynasty (750–1258) of caliphs of Baghdad claiming descent from Abbas, uncle of Muhammad. B. n. A member of this dynasty.
