A. n. A fish of the family Scopelidæ (see scopelid).
1880Günther Fishes 42 In addition to the rayed dorsal fin, many Malacopterygian fishes (as the Salmonoids, many Siluroids, Scopeloids, etc.) have another of greater or lesser extent. 1896H. Woodward Guide Fossil Reptiles Brit. Mus. 112 Herrings, Scopeloids, etc., occur abundantly in association with these.
