Gr. σκληρ-ός hard + ἀκτῖν-, ἀκτίς ray + ia1, -an: cf. Actinia, actinian.] A. n. A coral of the order Scleractinia or Madreporaria, which is characterized by compact calcareous skeletons and includes all living true corals. B. adj. Of or pertaining to such a coral or the group as a whole.
