Schutzstaffel|ˈʃʊtsˌʃtafəl| Also pl. Schutzstaffeln, and with lower-case initial. [G., lit. ‘defence squadron’.] The internal security force of the Nazis in Germany, more usually known by its initials S.S. (see S 4 a). Also transf. and attrib.
