scaup-duck|skɔːpdʌk| [? f. scaup scalp n.2: see quot. a 1672. The Icel. skálphœ́na (hœ́na = hen), occurring once as the nickname of a man, is prob. unconnected.] A duck of the genus Fuligula, esp. Fuligula marila, inhabiting the seas of northern Europe, Asia, and America.
